چکیده

Problem Statement Gas distribution modelling with a mobile robot in uncontrolled environments is a challenging field of research. This is mainly due to the chaotic nature of the dispersed gas that is affected by the turbulent features of the wind. We propose a statistical method to build two-dimensional gas distribution maps that takes into consideration the influence of wind in the dispersion of gas (Kernel DM+V with Wind = Kernel DM+V/W).

Statistical Gas Distribution Modeling Using Kernel Methods

Gas distribution models can provide comprehensive information about a large number of gas concentration measurements, highlighting, for example, areas of unusual gas accumulation. They can also help to locate gas sources and to plan where future measurements should be carried out. Current physical modeling methods, however, are computationally expensive and not applicable for real world scenari...

TD Kernel DM+V: Time-Dependent Statistical Gas Distribution Modelling on Simulated Measurements

To study gas dispersion, several statistical gas distribution modelling approaches have been proposed recently. A crucial assumption in these approaches is that gas distribution models are learned from measurements that are generated by a time-invariant random process. While a time-independent random process can capture certain fluctuations in the gas distribution, more accurate models can be o...

Three-Dimensional Statistical Gas Distribution Mapping in an Uncontrolled Indoor Environment

In this paper we present a statistical method to build three-dimensional gas distribution maps (3D-DM). The proposed mapping technique uses kernel extrapolation with a tri-variate Gaussian kernel that models the likelihood that a reading represents the concentration distribution at a distant location in the three dimensions. The method is evaluated using a mobile robot equipped with three “e-no...

Online Parameter Selection for Gas Distribution Mapping

Kernel DM+V, one of the most common and well studied algorithms for gas distribution mapping, relies crucially on a set of parameters. These parameters are often estimated using cross-validation (CV), which is computationally expensive and therefore has to be carried out offline. Here we propose an efficient method for parameter selection, based on Virtual LeaveOne-Out Cross Validation (VLOOCV)...

A Rao-Blackwellisation Approach to GDM-SLAM: Integrating SLAM and Gas Distribution Mapping (GDM)

In this paper we consider the problem of creating a two dimensional spatial representation of gas distribution with a mobile robot. In contrast to previous approaches to the problem of gas distribution mapping (GDM) we do not assume that the robot has perfect knowledge about its position. Instead we develop a probabilistic framework for simultaneous localisation and occupancy and gas distributi...
